About us

A road freight and courier company

Central Couriers is a road freight and courier company. We move goods by road across the United Kingdom, from a single urgent item to a full trailer load, and the job is the same each time: collect it when we said, look after it on the way, and deliver it when it is supposed to arrive.

Most of what separates one freight operator from another is not the vehicle. It is whether the detail was taken seriously before the vehicle moved. The right class for the load rather than the one that was free. The booking-in slot checked rather than assumed. The access at the delivery end established before a lorry is halfway there.

That is the whole of it. Freight is not a complicated business to describe, but it is an easy one to do badly, and almost every failed delivery traces back to a question nobody asked at the quoting stage.

So we ask them. The quote form is longer than a postcode box because the answers change which vehicle goes, what it costs you, and whether the job works first time.

The work

How a job actually runs

Six stages, and the one that decides the other five is the first.

  1. The brief Both postcodes, the load, the deadline and the access at each end. This is where the vehicle class is decided, and it is where most of the cost is determined. An estimate given now is worth more than an exact figure given after a vehicle has been committed.
  2. The price Quoted from the actual job: the distance the vehicle covers including getting to you, the class the load genuinely needs, and what the deadline rules out. You get the figure before anything is booked, not after the work is done.
  3. Collection The vehicle arrives in the agreed window and the consignment is checked against the brief. If what is waiting is materially different from what was described, you hear about it then, while there are still options, rather than on the invoice.
  4. In transit On a dedicated run the goods stay on the one vehicle from collection to delivery. Nothing is sorted at a depot, nothing is transferred, and nothing waits overnight in a hub. Fewer handling movements is the single biggest thing that protects a consignment.
  5. Delivery Delivered to the address agreed, with confirmation back to you that it has landed. Where a site needs booking in, a signature, or a named recipient, that is arranged as part of the job rather than discovered at the gate.
  6. Afterwards Paperwork and proof of delivery follow the job. If something went wrong, you get told what and why. A delivery that failed quietly is worse than one that failed loudly.

What we move

Described by the load, not by the lorry

Single urgent items
Documents, samples, parts and anything where the deadline is the point. Collected and driven direct, with no depot in between.
Loose-loaded consignments
Boxes, lengths of material, equipment and awkward single items that do not suit a pallet and do not suit a parcel network.
Palletised freight
Full, half and quarter pallets on the UK and Euro footprints, within the usual height and weight limits for the service chosen.
Part and full loads
Long-distance road freight where the consignment takes a meaningful share of a vehicle, or all of it.
Regular runs
The same route on a known schedule, planned as a standing arrangement rather than quoted job by job.

Straight answers

What we will not do

A company that names its boundaries is easier to deal with than one that claims it does everything. These are ours.

  • We are not a parcel network. If you want a tracked box at a published price with next-day delivery and you do not mind it passing through a depot, a parcel carrier will do it cheaper than we can and there is no sense pretending otherwise.
  • We do not carry hazardous goods that require ADR unless it has been agreed in advance, because the driver, the vehicle and the paperwork all have to be right before anything is loaded.
  • We do not quote a price we cannot hold. If the job as described changes at the kerbside, you are told at the time rather than billed for it afterwards.
  • We do not promise a delivery window that depends on something outside the vehicle. If a job needs a ferry, a booking-in slot or a site that opens at a fixed time, the honest answer includes that rather than hiding it.
